Open Source Blockchain for customs processing

BORDER (Blockchain-based organization of relevant data in extra trade with legal security) is a blockchain-based web application. The use of blockchain technology enables the digital handling of customs-relevant documents, data and processes, including the documentation of status and data changes – trustworthy and tamper-proof for all parties involved.

Roman Koller and Lorenz Kiebler explain to us in a compact digital appointment how the open source software system works, how it can be put into use and how it is changing customs processing.

Summer School 2022

From July 4-8, 2022, the seventh PhD School of Logistics of the Innovation Ecosystem will take place at the science location Dortmund. This year, the Summer School will be held under the title “How to: The New Supply Chain Management”. 20 PhD students from all over the world will have the opportunity to learn about the latest methods and technologies on the way to new, flexible, resilient and sustainable supply chains. Blockchain Europe is pleased to be a cooperation partner again this year. After all, without blockchain technology, it is difficult to implement a new supply chain management.

Following the big picture of our research location, the platform economy is the central enabler of flexible supply chain planning. Through platforms, the different actors within a supply chain come together and rely on blockchain-based certification, payment and transaction negotiation. Blockchain Europe Advisory Board member Prof. Dr. Fritz Henglein from the University of Copenhagen will reveal exactly how this can look in his presentations “Total Accounting for the Circular Economy” and “Smart Financial Instruments and Capital Market Platforms”.

In addition to insights into the platform economy, central analysis methods and the topic of sustainability in global networks, the live case study will again be offered. The already published open source components of Blockchain Europe and the Silicon Economy will play a central role. In cooperation with the Open Logistics Foundation, the participants of the Summer School will ask themselves what other open source components will be needed in the future to organize supply chains flexibly and sustainably via platforms.

Registration for the Summer School is now open. If you don’t want to miss a week full of concentrated logistics knowledge, the direct transfer of science into practice and the opportunity to build a comprehensive PhD network, you should register quickly. Due to Corona, only 20 places are available this year.

Working Group Customs and Blockchain #4

The members of the multi-national “Working Group Customs and Blockchain” deal with the future application possibilities of blockchain technology in digital customs processing and its medium-term realization. The topic of customs is highly complex, and the processes are currently still heavily paper-based. In addition, since Brexit at the latest, further complex issues have been added, which make it necessary to discuss the topic of customs across countries and together with companies, associations and authorities.

With the Working Group Customs and Blockchain, Blockchain Europe wants to create a forum for customs experts to shape the future together in the spirit of open innovation.

What concrete benefits does the blockchain bring to customs authorities and what can these look like in concrete terms, e.g. in the form of a MVP? These and other questions will be discussed next time. we look forward to it.

Let’s start a journey and get deeper into the topic. What is Blockchain? What does it mean for logistics? What are key technical developments? And why are Smart Contracts important for the realization of a plattform oeconomy like the Silicon Economy? Blockchains will fundamentally change the world as we know it in the coming years. They will disrupt entire industries, payment transactions and established processes, and turn familiar business models upside down. Moreover, blockchain is the enabler of the approaching platform economy. Reason enough to focus our Summer School on the technology, its possibilities and the enormous potential for benefits and transformation.

July 19-23, 2021

Participants from different countries and disciplines, international scientists and experts from Fraunhofer IML work together intensively for one week. Theory becomes practice. This year’s Summer School will take place from July 19-23, 2021 digitally and ist offered in cooperation with Graduate School of Logistics at TU Dortmund University.

Following our mission statement , the program provides a balanced mix of theoretical foundations and practical implementation. In addition to keynotes, we offer hands-on workshops and a live case study with a company. You will act in interdisciplinary groups, create new ideas and work on concrete examples from the business world. In preparation for the case we also offer an ideation workshop.

UnConference Blockchain Europe

Together, we are heading into the Blockchain Era. Not only exciting discussions are on the agenda. We want to shape the future with Blockchain, so “getting things done” is the focus.

Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, our UnConference has a session for every level to participate in. The application areas range from concrete logistical questions to business models and the development of necessary basic components. The advantage: You decide what really interests you.

Since you decide, the whole format is very agile. If there is a lot of interest for a session, many questions and extensive discussions, a session can be offered over two days. If there is limited interest, the planned format can be changed and a new, shorter format can be offered to address the needs.

Our session masters pitch their idea of their session. After the pitches you decide which session you want to attend. Then, after the lunch break, you will discuss a common agenda in the session. Questions, problems and impulses can be brought in by the participants at any time.

Import/Export Officers, Customs Officers, Compliance Officers, Innovation Managers, Digitalization Officers, Sales or Purchasing Agents and Chief Officers let us discuss the Vision of paperless customs processing. Blockchain will disruptively change markets. Let’s discuss new, digital and blockchain-based business models and challenge what we have learned with a very concrete example.

III. Blockchain: Basic Components

Together, we will identify and conceptualize new blockchain basic components. Basic components encapsulate fundamental functions of a blockchain and thus represent the foundation for the further development and widespread use of this technology. We answer the questions: which basic components do we need? What functionalities do the identified basic components provide? What is the concept of these basic components?

IV. Blockchain & Dangerous Goods

What could a digitalized dangerous goods process look like, and how could blockchain-enabled IoT devices, for example, optimize the previously paper-based and time-consuming processes? Here’s where you can get involved and help shape the development of blockchain in the dangerous goods sector.

In the course of the transformation of maintenance to smart maintenance, there will also be an increased need for instruments for the documentation and transfer of maintenance-relevant information from industrial plants: The Digital Lifecycle Record. A traceable, complete and tamper-proof storage of data can be enabled by blockchain. Let us dicuss this use case.

VII. What you can‘t earn money with in logistics?

Explore creativity techniques and learn how to come up with innovative ideas quickly – in the Silicon Economy ideation workshop. The platform economy of the future – the Silicon Economy – will paint a completely new picture. How can the future of my company be shaped in this context?
